Common Mistakes and Misconceptions Associated With Compost-based BMP Applications
by Craig Kolodge Ph.D. (aka Dr. K)
Compost stormwater blankets and filter socks are extremely effective tools for managing stormwater yet are often perceived as too expensive or simply difficult to install. With California mandating more organics be recycled and diverted from landfills to address Greenhouse Gas build-up in the environment, it is even more important that professionals tasked with managing stormwater run-off understand the different types of compost. This workshop will help you see what works and what doesn’t to effectively manage stormwater. The workshop will also cover the specifications and practical application of compost-based BMP’s (Best Management Practices), where and when to use them and common mistakes made in both installation and understanding the specifications for maximum performance.
I presented this workshop at this year’s Stormwater Awareness Week online event on September 30, 2021. If you missed the workshop, you can view a recording through the link below.
