Our customers want premium products for their gardens, landscapes, orchards, vineyards, and farms. They want the best and nothing less will do. We get that. That is why we strive to craft the highest quality products for use in home gardens, landscaping businesses, and agricultural endeavors.
At SPV Soils, we even go a step beyond and get our products tested and certified so you can rest assured that the products you’re a buying are consistently meeting or exceeding standards established by the United States Composting Council (USCC).
What is STA Certified Compost
We have applied for and received USCC’s Seal of Testing Assurance (STA) Certification for three of our products which meet the following requirements for quality, safety and consistency:
First and foremost, the product must meet USCC’s definition of compost:
‘Compost – is the product manufactured through the controlled aerobic, biological decomposition of biodegradable materials. The product has undergone mesophilic and thermophilic temperatures, which significantly reduces the viability of pathogens and weed seeds (in accordance with EPA 40 CFR 503 standards) and stabilizes the carbon such that it is beneficial to plant growth. Compost is typically used as a soil amendment, but may also contribute plant nutrients. (AAPFCO definition, official 2018) Finished compost is typically screened to reduce its particle size, to improve soil incorporation.’
Second – Program participants must comply with all federal, state, and local permitting and regulations related to STA Certified Compost products.
Third – Program participants must use STA Certified Compost approved labs for testing.
Fourth – Program participants must test STA Certified Compost products regularly.
Fifth – Program participants must provide customers with STA Compost Technical Data Sheets.
Sixth – Program participants must meet the EPA testing limits for heavy metals and pathogens.
Seventh – Program participants enter into the USCC contractual agreement to follow the program requirements and meet or exceed all standards.
Lastly – Program participants pay annual fees to USCC to participate in the program for each STA Certified Compost product.
